Position Title: Plasma Center Phlebotomist / Plasmapheresis Technician

Reports to: PlasmaLab Management

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

PlasmaLab International (PLI) is a respected collection point for healthy and disease-state plasma in Washington State. Our FDA licensed biopharmaceutical company supplies plasma products to medical diagnostic and research groups worldwide for the purpose of allergy and immune disorder research.

Under the direction of the Responsible Physician or Physician Substitute, the Phlebotomist / Plasmapheresis Technician performs donor screening to determine the acceptability of all new and return donors based on FDA regulations and company protocols.

The Phlebotomist / Plasmapheresis Technician also performs arm preparation and phlebotomy, along with the following plasmapheresis duties:

  • Install, prime, and disconnect disposable sets on the plasmapheresis machines.
  • Operate, maintain, and perform troubleshooting of plasmapheresis machines.
  • Monitor donors during donation process and respond to donor reactions.
  • Maintain and calibrate equipment.
  • Record medical history.
  • Take and record donor weight, blood pressure, pulse and temperature.
  • Perform finger stick, test sample, and record Hematocrit and total protein.
  • Enter donor information into the Donor Record File (DRF) and computer database.
  • Manage supplies inventory and ordering.
  • Assists with plasma and samples processing and other laboratory duties as needed.
  • Accurate recording and computer entry.
  • Maintain compliance with company procedures, HIPAA laws, current Good Manufacturing Procedures (cGMP) and applicable regulatory guidance.
  • Responsible for maintaining center equipment and area in clean and orderly conditions.
  • Any other duties necessary for the efficient operation of the laboratory and plasmapheresis center.

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional phlebotomy skills; preference will be given to candidates with longer phlebotomy experience.
  • Recent experience performing pheresis at a plasma/blood center is required. Experience performing dialysis at a dialysis facility may be considered.
  • Experience operating plasma collection devices, such as Auto C, Aurora, PCS2, Trima, Amicus, Alyx or Dialysis equipment.
  • Strict adherence to current good manufacturing procedures. Experience in highly regulated facility is additional advantage.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to interpret medical information, technical documents, and to formulate appropriate actions.
  • Occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens.
  • Ability to lift, pull, or tug up to 40 lbs.
  • Work requires extended periods of standing and bending.
